I write to music. It's the only way I can focus and tune out the world and noise around me. However, I don't write to just any music. It has to be familiar and what I've listened to before. My favorite Pandora station is OneRepublic and I've tailored it to my tastes. Sometimes they throw something new at me and it actually pulls me out of my writing zone while I listen to it.
Some of the bands I particularly like are:
OneRepublic
Coldplay
Mat Kearney
Lifehouse
The Fray
The Script
Snow Patrol
Linkin Park
Daughtry
Maroon 5

Here's a couple YouTube favorites from my personal channel: (Oh yeah, please join my channel.)
All this time -OneRepublic If this song could be instrumental until the chorus, it would
fit perfectly for the scene in A Diamond in my Pocket where Chris **SPOILER ALERT**
(highlight to read) watches the diamond explode and then rushes out to Calli and lifts her off the stone table cradling her in his arms. I've always imagined that scene in a slow motion kind of chaos with people running this way and that, and Chris in a complete state of despair as he gently picks her up and holds her tight pleading for help. I especially like the music at about 2:33.
I like many of Lifehouse's songs! Between the Raindrops resonated with me as I was editing chapter one of The Diamond of Freedom **SPOILER ALERT** (highlight to read) Chapter one picks up where book 2 ends with Chris and Calli driving toward Miami to meet his uncle. At this point in their journey, everything is good, ideal, romantic, and they are one in purpose. Of course, the book would be boring if it stayed that way for too long.
Mat Kearney's All I Need also fits the end of book 2 and beginning of book 3, but with a different feel.
Linkin Park's Waiting for the End is absolutely perfect for capturing the inner feelings of Calli in A Diamond in my Pocket. **SPOILER ALERT** (highlight to read) "Waiting for the end to come, wishing I had strength to stand, this is not what I had planned, it's out of my control ... I know what it takes to move on, I know how it feels to lie, all I wanna do is trade this life for something new, holding on to what I haven't got." I think this song fits well for the scene in Pocket where Calli has just viewed Chris's future for the last time and sees that he'll live because she'll die. She sits in the bathroom knowing what she must do, but not completely ready to do it. She knows her powers were never hers to keep. "The hardest part of ending is starting again."
Kodaline recently showed up on my Pandora station. 'All I Want' lyrics spoke to me as I typed a particularly sad scene in book 3 of The Unaltered.
