A Diamond in my Pocket Amazon description:
Calli Courtnae, age 16, unexpectedly breaks the 100-meter world record at a high school track meet and is whisked off to Montana to train for Olympic tryouts. Upon arriving, however, she finds something totally unexpected. Her fellow athletes are secretive, mysterious, paranoid, uncommonly beautiful — and endowed with the same gift of superhuman speed that she now exhibits. The truth, Calli learns, is that she has been brought to Montana to join an elite clan of Runners who train to undertake highly secret missions for the benefit of superhuman kids everywhere.

When three Runners from her compound are kidnapped by a clan of evil terrorists who can kill with their thoughts, Calli is assigned to the team that must deliver a rare magic diamond to the terrorists in exchange for the hostages. Calli is just beginning to accept her new world when it is turned upside-down by a mysterious woman who secretly gives Calli the real diamond, while the team leader is given a decoy. Almost immediately the magic diamond in Calli’s pocket unleashes within her a startling range of supernatural powers and mind-reading abilities. Using her new-found powers, Calli exposes traitors among her team, discovers that the hottest-looking guy on the team believes she is his soul-mate, has visions of her companions’ tragic futures, and learns that she alone holds the power to change their futures. While Calli knows that her powers derive from the secret diamond in her pocket, her companions do not, and Calli dreads the fast-approaching day when they will discover the truth.

Oh yeah! If you haven't read A Diamond in my Pocket, you're missing out. Don't be afraid because of some of the bad reviews. This is a fantastic story that you won't be able to put down once you start! I just downloaded the third and have cleared out my day so I can read it nonstop. I'll come back and leave a review when I'm done!

I'm amazed with the progression of Ms. Angell's writing style! The Diamond of Freedom has detail, depth, and complex characters. It's never boring. I finished in 6 hours. And then I reread it to see if I'd missed some clues. The second time through I picked up on subtle lines that I'd rushed past the first time. I don't want to spoil anything, but Chris is one conflicted dude! and I agree with Maetha at the ending. Now the question is...HOW LONG AM I GOING TO HAVE TO WAIT TO SEE HOW THIS ALL ENDS!!! My new favorite character is Deus Ex. I loved how Ms. Angell addressed a common writing faux pas "deus ex machina" (google it) By naming the new girl Deus Ex and then using her in the very way her name suggests was beyond amazing! I wished we could have gotten to know more of the Diamond Bearers, but maybe that will be covered in book 4. FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!!

      Buttercup,

Thank you for your review! I like how you say "Chris is one conflicted dude!" I thought I was the only one who used the word "dude". =) I set up a forum (as suggested by my fans) as a place where you can go discuss the series with other people who've read it. You can either click "forum" at the top of the page, or use the url below:

This series is amazing!!! I'm so glad I gave it a chance. It's full of twists and turns. Some you can see are coming, but they still surprise you when they hit because they are not what you thought theyd be. These books are great for young adult and older. THere's mild swearing, kidnapping, killing (sort of like in the Hunger Games), romance (destined love found ahead of schedule), traitors, and all sorts of super powers and super human abilities that originate from a Sci-Fi kind of origin. Very Unique! Do what I did, give it a chance because the first book is free.
